Frequently Asked Questions

What type of insurance pairs well with Direct Primary Care?

If you have a high-deductible insurance plan, as over 40-50% of Americans  now do, this pairs very well with a Direct Primary Care membership. A  high-deductible insurance plan with a Health Savings Account works very well, as money placed in the Health Savings  Account grows tax-free, and if unused within the year, rolls over from  year to year and can be used to pay for medical expenses in the future.  Alternative insurance plans known as healthcare sharing groups, such as Liberty Healthshare, Medi-Share, Christian Healthcare Ministries, and Samaritan  Ministries, also pair very well with membership in a Direct Primary Care (DPC) Membership and those enrolled in a health share plan may qualify for discounts if they are currently working with a DPC provider . Patients with Medicare, Medicaid, or private medical  insurance, often find that the additional service, availability, and  quality of care that you receive through Direct Primary Care well worth the extra cost of the membership and it will often pay for itself with less visits to urgent cares, Emergency Rooms, lab costs, and more.

Do I still need insurance?

The answer is, absolutely.  Insurance plans that pair well with DPC memberships are typically high deductible plans. Insurance is needed for emergency and catastrophic events and/or specialty care. It is also good to use as insurance was initially intended to help cover costs of labs, imaging, and medications. As mentioned in the above question there are alternative plans to the traditional health insurance plans and these are called Health Sharing groups such as Liberty healthshare, Medi-Share, Christian Healthcare Ministries, and Samaritan Ministries. Many health share groups offer discounts to members who enroll with DPC providers.

Can you help with lab costs?

As DPC member you have access to extremely low lab cost pricing. Typical lab costs are insurance-inflated pricing and patients are subject to astronomical bills for very basic labs.  For example:

CBC (complete blood count)     $4 (DPC)  $114  out of pocket

you save $100 !!

Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)  $4 (DPC) $143 out of pocket

you save $139!

We have a complete list of lab costs available all with amazingly negotiated pricing available to each of our members. You save money by having your labs drawn in house and processed through our lab versus using insurance. However, if you prefer to use your insurance we can still draw in house and submit "bill to insurance" but with the understanding that you may receive a bill from the lab just like you would with any other lab draw from other primary care or specialty offices.
